What is the Library and Information Service?

Yooralla's Library and Information Service has an ongoing commitment in providing access to an extensive collection on physical and multiple disabilities. Some of the resources include texts, brochures, journals and audiovisual materials. Although borrowing is restricted, there are ample study tables available as well as a coin operated photocopier for the convenience of users. There is also free Internet access for all library clients as well as training and advice on its use.

The library is open to the public and can be accessed on most weekdays or alternatively resources can be sent electronically. It is recommended that you ring before visiting as the library is staffed on a part time basis.

Library Collection

The library has an extensive collection covering all aspects of physical and multiple disability. Subjects include:

Books
Reference material is not for loan, but may be consulted in the library or photocopies taken. Circulation books are generally only available for loan to Yooralla staff, however, loans may be negotiated at the discretion of the librarian for external users.
Reports
All relevant reports produced by government and other agencies are collected and housed at the library.
Journals
There are approximately 150 journals and newsletter titles. They are not for loan but articles can be copied. All journals held by Yooralla Library are listed here in alphabetical order. The highlighted links allow easy navigation through the alphabetically arranged list or you may scroll down the page.
Audiovisual
The library has a large collection of visual material, which includes videos, kits and films. Items are available for hire at a cost of $15 per item. Audiovisual loans are for one week and items must be collected and returned in person.
Internet Access
The library has full Internet access for all Yooralla clients as well as training and advice on its use.
Electronic Databases
Yooralla Library subscribes to a number of electronic databases containing a wealth of current information that enables library staff to provide a prompt literature search service.
The Catalogue
The collection is arranged in numerical order by call number which is based on the Dewey Decimal System (as in public libraries) and uses Inmagic DB / Text Works software to manage the computer catalogue.
