Customers from our Drouin Hub are channelling their creative side, writing and performing their own courtroom drama 'Friends, thieves, burgers and cars,' showing Tuesday 8 August, in Warragul as part of the Gippsland Parasteddford.

Supported by Yooralla's community services team, this performance is the culmination of our customers weekly participation in the 'Learn to Communicate' Program, which aims to build confidence, communication skills, team work and independence.

Over the last few months our customers have worked as a team to develop the characters, dialogue and select the music choices - increasing their self-awareness and awareness of others.

The course is being delivered by the Community College Gippsland (CCG) and aided by college students who, as part of their studies, gain experience and insights into what it's like to be a teacher aide or carer.

This is the third year that the Drouin Community Hub drama group have participated in the program, which gives Yooralla customers the chance to build a whole host of skills, community connections and the opportunity to engage in activities that match with their personal interests.

The pilot program was originally launched by CCG in Sale and achieved a great deal of success.

Customers from Yooralla's Drouin and Leongatha Community Hubs were interested in taking part in a drama program, so Yooralla staff worked with CCG to expand the program to two more locations– the CCG Warragul campus for the Drouin Community Hub and the CCG Leongatha campus for the Leongatha Community Hub.

The Drouin drama and theatre group have already performed their skit to a small group of staff and students in preparation for their big performance opening night.

To book your 'Friends, thieves, burgers and cars' ticket or find out more about the program, contact on Community College Gippsland or 03 5622 6000 or visit: www.ccg.as.au
