Yooralla Catering – Recognised for excellence on the national stage

We are delighted to announce that our Yooralla Catering team placed second in this year’s Supported Employment Excellence Awards, which celebrate enterprises that encourage people with disability to participate to their full potential in employment.

We are delighted to announce that our Yooralla Catering team placed second in this year’s Supported Employment Excellence Awards, which celebrate enterprises that encourage people with disability to participate to their full potential in employment.

Yooralla Catering began with a group supported employees who had a passion for food and cooking and has quickly built its customer base as word of mouth spread about the quality of service, becoming a sustainable enterprise in its own right.

In just its third year of operations we are thrilled that Yooralla Catering is already being recognised for excellence on the national stage.

To date, this unique enterprise has provided skills based training for almost 90 participants, building capacity and upskilling people with all types of disabilities.

Yooralla Catering also supports employee’s transition to community based employment and work experience. Self-management techniques ensure all team members are involved in the day to day operations of the business, helping to build self-confidence and prepare for open employment.

Congratulations also goes to Footscray Business Enterprise team who work alongside Yooralla Catering to help make the enterprise a success by developing tailored supported learning and mentoring programs that include hands on training and certifications in Food Handling, Health and Safety that building on current skills of food preparation within an inclusive and supportive environment.

Assistant Minister for Social Services and Disability Services, the Hon Jane Prentice MP presented Elaine Krassas, Yooralla Executive Director Community Services, with the award on behalf of the team at last night’s awards ceremony, as part of the National Disability Services - Disability at Work conference.

As the NDIS continues to rollout, Yooralla continues to innovate and improve how we support our customers build independence, engage in meaningful work, earn a wage and prosper from satisfying and rewarding careers.
