Yooralla provides employment and professional development opportunities for young people with disability through a social enterprise called UCAN Cafe. UCAN Cafe supports people with disability to be an integral part of our business community.

At UCAN Cafe we focus on a persons abilities rather than their disability while providing additional support and training where required.

We aim to demonstrate that people with disability make excellent employees, and to challenge undesirable stereotypes.

Staff employed at UCAN Cafe gain essential hospitality skills including customer service, cooking, money handling and coffee making.

The first UCAN Cafe opened in August 2011 at Altona North Community Library. It offers library users the opportunity to enjoy great coffee and food as part of their library experience, and at the same time support people with disability.

The Cafe also offers a catering service to local businesses and people holding events.

Two more UCAN Cafes are scheduled to be opened by June 2012.

UCAN Cafe is supported by Yooralla and the concept is the result of a partnership with Hobsons Bay City Council and a group of professionals interested in making a difference to the lives of people with disability.
