Yooralla, in partnership with the Fitzroy Victoria Bowls Club and the Rotary Club of Fitzroy, will be running its first family-friendly lawn bowls tournament to raise awareness and funds for Yooralla programs supporting people with disability on Sunday March 18th 2012.
Up to 72 teams of 4 will compete in a round robin tournament for a chance to win $2000 donated by the Bendigo Bank Clifton Hill/North Fitzroy Community Bank Branch.
Prizes will also be offered for Highest Fundraiser and Best Themed Team as well as spot prizes on the day!
The team-based competition is open to everyone irrespective of their age, gender or ability and spectators are welcome.

Date: Sunday 18 March 2012
Time: 9.30am onwards
Venue: Fitzroy Victoria Bowls Club 578 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy North
Entry Fee: $50 per player $200 per team of four (includes a donation to Yooralla) or $15 for people on a Disability Support Pension (DSP).
An accessible bus has been organised to transport people to and from Fitzroy Bowls Club on Sunday March 18th. It will depart from Clifton Hill train station via Fitzroy Bowls Club returning to Clifton Hill station regularly, starting at 8.30am with the last run at 5pm. A volunteer wearing an orange YoorallaBOWL t-shirt will meet people outside platform 2, (Hoddle street side of Clifton Hill station) in the bus lane.

As part of your entry fee, Fitzroy Bowls is holding practice sessions every Wednesday evening from 4pm - 8pm commencing Wednesday, February 8th, 2012.

Rules of the Game
Conditions of play (Fours)
- Each player has three (3) bowls (players alternate bowls as per standard rules)
- Sets Play Format - two (2) sets of four (4) ends with a one (1) bowl shoot out if tied
- Two (2) jacks are placed on the green at a nominated distance apart
- Player A bowls to one jack and player B bowls to the other jack
- Points are awarded at the conclusion of each end with the closest to each jack scoring
- Each team has one (1) 'powerplay' they can use in the game. This powerplay will double their score during the end they nominate to use it.
- Designated umpires will be placed on each rink to officiate games in a manner deemed fair by the Yooralla organisation.
- If teams are tied at one (1) set each the umpire will choose which player from each team bowls in the 1 (1) bowl shootout. The umpire will also decide where the jack will be placed.
- The winning team will be placed in a pool with all other winners while the losing team will play another game straight away against another losing team to see who advances.
The day will start at 9am with a cooked breakfast followed by introductions of Yooralla staff, bowling club staff, umpires and officials.
The first game will commence at 10am across all rinks. (Games will take approximately 45min)
The second round of games will start at 11am (losing sides)
After the second game the tournament becomes a knockout competition.
The tournament will continue until there are two (2) sides left. A final will be played with the winning team receiving $2000 from the Bendigo Bank Clifton Hill/North Fitzroy Community Bank Branch.
