2020 NAIDOC Week

At Yooralla, we believe that it is important to understand the diversity and richness of Aboriginal culture in order to provide culturally safe and respectful supports and services.

NAIDOC Week, which commences this Sunday 8 November, presents a great opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

At Yooralla, we believe that it is important to understand the diversity and richness of Aboriginal culture in order to provide culturally safe and respectful supports and services.

Therefore, in August this year we introduced Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training to all employees so that we, as an organisation, can support Aboriginal people to feel culturally safe at Yooralla, whether they are our customers, visitors or colleagues.

The training covers the history of Aboriginal people and the impact colonisation has had on their culture, health and wellbeing; it also explores some of the barriers that may prevent an Aboriginal person from accessing health and disability services.

For NAIDOC Week this year, we’ve also created the graphic below by overlaying the maps of Aboriginal languages of Victoria and Yooralla locations to show how they correspond.
