Great feedback for Yooralla’s Business Enterprise in Seymour
DATE: 25 October 2017
Earlier this year, the gardening team from Yooralla’s Business Enterprise in Seymour started a gardening service for people living in Seymour and surrounds.
The aim of the new approach was to diversify the activities of Yooralla’s Business Enterprises and enable more community activity for the supported employees.
Joel, who’s been part of the gardening crew since it started, said the team is happy to carry out any gardening tasks people require of them.
“We mostly do weeding, gardening, mowing and as well as the whipper-snipping for people in the community,” said Joel.
“I enjoy this type of work because I really like getting out and about and working outdoors. My favourite thing to do is mowing because it’s a good form of exercise,” continued Joel.
People’s reaction to the gardening crew has been extremely positive.
“Every customer has said that the guys are doing a great job and how happy they’d be to use them again,” said Roselee Judge-Williams, Site Coordinator at Yooralla’s Business Enterprises in Seymour.
“One customer posted on Facebook about the quality of the work and how more people should use our services, and another saw us doing some work on the garden next door and rang the next day because she wanted her lawns done too!”
According to Joel, since joining the program, he’s learnt new landscaping skills and the proper way to handle a range of machinery, which is helpful because he would really like to continue working in gardening and landscaping in the future.
“The team are learning so many new skills with this service – learning to work as a team, getting out in the fresh air and showing them what they can do with a little initiative if they’d like to branch out. There is also a great sense of pride when they look back at what they have just accomplished,” said Roselee.
