Agency-managed NDIS plans
DATE: 22 November 2018
During your National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) planning meeting, you will be asked how you would like to manage your NDIS funds – this means how you want your service providers and supports to be paid.
There are four different ways to manage the funds in your NDIS plan. They are:
- Agency-managed (managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency – the NDIA)
- Self-managed, and
- A combination of the above three options.
If you do not specify which plan management option you would like to use, your plan will automatically be Agency-managed.
What does Agency-managed mean?
Choosing to have the funds Agency-managed means that the NDIA will pay service providers on your behalf.
The NDIA will manage the book keeping, and keep a record of your spending in the NDIS participant portal, myplace. You will be able to view your plan and track your spending in the myplace portal without having the responsibility of paying providers.
You will still have choice and control over the service providers you choose to deliver your supports. However, if you choose to have your plan Agency-managed, you will only be able to choose providers who have been registered by the NDIS. Registered service providers, such as Yooralla, have met requirements regarding qualifications, approvals, experience and capacity for the approved supports. Find out more about registered service providers.
Also, if your funds are Agency-managed, the providers that you choose to deliver your supports are unable to charge more than the NDIS price guide for these services.
When do I choose how to manage my NDIS funds?
During your NDIS planning meeting, your planner will ask you how you would like to manage the funds in your NDIS plan. If you would like your funds to be agency-managed, you can request this at this time.
You are able to change the way your NDIS funds are managed during your plan review meeting with the NDIS.
