Co-designed cravats help customers feel more confident

Customers co-designed the cravats so the protectors would become like another item of clothing that highlights their personality and reflects their tastes.

Yooralla residential customers are getting out-and-about in style, co-designing customised cravats to help them feel more confident while eating out in public.

Ruth Crespin, Residential Service Manager at Yooralla, worked with a small business that runs out of community markets to create the special cravats to order.

“For a long time, I’ve noticed that when we support customers in restaurants the first thing people see is a uniform clothing protector,” said Ruth.

“Bearing this in mind I approached a small business with the idea of customised cravats. We spoke about what colours the customers preferred and what designs they liked.

“The cravats were then made to order, using the Core Support funding in the residents’ NDIS plans,” she said.

With the first order of cravats proving to be such a success, Ruth approached the business again to copy the design of the original clothing protectors, but to make them out of beautiful fabrics that reflected the taste of the customers.

“We worked with the customers to co-design the cravats, ascertaining what colour schemes the customers wanted so the protectors would become like another item of clothing that highlights their personality and reflects their tastes,” said Ruth.

“It’s only a small thing but it gives the customers a fresh confidence for eating out and blending in rather than standing out!” said Ruth.
