Jason achieves his employment goal
DATE: 22 March 2018
Yooralla’s Employability program has supported Jason to achieve his goal of employment, recently accepting a job opportunity at Sleepy Bear Books.
Sleepy Bear Books is an online social enterprise that sells books and sewing patterns online, making it a perfect job opportunity for Jason, who was interested in working in IT and in a library.
During his participation in Yooralla’s Employability program, Jason learned how to prepare his resume, how to respond to key selection criteria, about self-presentation and other employment skills to support him to achieve his employment goal.
In preparation for his interview, his mentor from Yooralla’s Employability program spent time with him to help prepare for the interview helping him prepare for interview questions, like how did he find out about the job, and what attracts him to this role.
His mentor says that through practice Jason’s interview skills have definitely improved, with him being more positive about himself and his skills.
All of the hard work Jason put into the interview preparation paid off, when he received a call on Australia Day telling him he had got the job.
“I was rapt, I told my Mum and Dad. They were all very excited,” Jason said.
When asked about what he is most excited about learning, Jason said: “The IT side, learning how to use eBay, working in the shop and customer service.”
Jason is looking forward to starting his new role and recommending his favourite book – Kitchen Disco, to customers.
