Matt's Story: achieving and exceeding his goals
DATE: 30 April 2018
Prior to moving into Yooralla’s accommodation Matt, who has autism, had difficulty holding positive relationships, retaining a job, managing finances and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Since moving into Yooralla’s accommodation two years ago, all this has changed.
Yooralla has produced a video highlighting Matt’s achievements thanks to the support he has received from Yooralla and his friends and family.
In the video, Matt talks about the major changes in his life.
“Living at Lardner Road was the best decision I’ve made,” says Matt.
“My mental health and physical health has improved since living here for two years. Without the support and help of the staff I wouldn’t be where I am today,” he adds.
He has now had employment in mechanics and gardening and learnt life skills, such as cooking, budgeting and cleaning. He now even cooks dinner for his family.
Matt is now focussed on the future.
“For the first time in my life, I’ve been able to start saving and putting money away for festivals, my license and a car,” he says.
