Peter’s NDIS transition

Now that Peter has his first NDIS plan, it means all the repairs and maintenance for his wheelchair is funded, as well as new boots and a new hi-lo bed.

Peter, a Yooralla customer and volunteer, has recently transitioned to the NDIS, sharing his experience and advice in a new Yooralla video.

Watch the video below or on our youtube channel: YoorallaTV.

Peter has spina bifida and has been supported by Yooralla since he was a child, through services ranging from Therapy, Accommodation and Respite.

In the video he reflects on his apprehension about transitioning to the NDIS and the difference that Yooralla made by explaining the NDIS and supporting him to make the most his planning meeting.

“When I met Yooralla’s community engagement team with regards to planning for the NDIS, it was wonderful because I was quite apprehensive and it’s a major life change,” says Peter.

He explains how the team walked him through the NDIS using Yooralla’s guide to prepare for the NDIS and explained what he needed to do to prepare for his NDIS meeting.

“It helped immensely and that allayed my fears and anxiety to a great extent,” said Peter.

When asked about what advice he would give to people about to have their NDIS planning meeting, he provided some valuable suggestions.

“People need to know about the current supports they are getting, their unmet needs such as equipment and therapy, and their goals,” says Peter.

Now that Peter has his first NDIS plan, it means all the repairs and maintenance for his wheelchair is funded, as well as new boots and a new hi-lo bed. Following his NDIS transition experience, Peter has a positive outlook about the NDIS.

“I think in the long run it’s going to be OK. It’s a little being like going through a family relationship or a relationship sometimes you’re angry and sometimes you’re happy. And I think in the long run it’s going to be a happy relationship,” says Peter.
