RSM Australia to raise funds for Yooralla
DATE: 15 March 2019
Yooralla has been selected as a ‘charity of choice’ for RSM Australia’s annual internal fundraising initiative to support the not-for-profit sector.
As part of its corporate social responsibility efforts, the audit, tax and consulting services provider holds a fundraising week amongst staff every year, to raise funds for charities and not-for-profits.
Yooralla CEO, Dr Sherene Devanesen, presented to more than 80 RSM Australia Melbourne-based this week, covering Yooralla’s history and services, as well as where the funds raised will go.
“All funds raised will go towards developing an urban garden pavilion at Yooralla’s Ventilator Accommodation Support Service (VASS) in Thornbury,” said Dr Devanesen.
Yooralla’s VASS is a unique service that was purpose built for people who are dependent on mechanical ventilators and require high level 24-hour support. It is the only one of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and offers both residential and respite accommodation.
Dr Devanesen said the proposal to develop the garden pavilion was initiated by one of the residents at VASS.
“It all started with the resident contacting Andrew Laidlaw, the landscape architect at Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens. He is a regular presenter on ABC 774’s Saturday morning gardening program and has had his work featured in industry magazines,” she said.
The project will rely on grant funds and fundraising activities.
Dr Devanesen said the garden pavilion will feature a pergola with vertical gardens, a water feature and outdoor speakers to play music.
“This is a really good cause for good people who will benefit greatly from this garden,” she said.
