World Occupational Therapy Day

Occupational Therapists at Yooralla use evidence-based practice to support children and adults with disability to achieve their goals as a part of their NDIS plan.

World Occupational Therapy Day, held on 27 October 2019, is an opportunity to promote the many ways Occupational Therapists (OTs) can support people at all stages of life to reach their potential.

Occupational Therapists at Yooralla use evidence-based practice to support children and adults with disability to achieve their goals as a part of their NDIS plan.

Leah, an OT at Yooralla has found that “no day is the same. I support children and families to actually do what’s important to them. So we work and identify what’s the most important goal for them and we start from there,” she says.

“It might be being included in their local kindergarten program, it might be being able to access the local swimming pool or it might be working on self-feeding skills or eating at home,” Leah said.

Working as an Occupational Therapist at Yooralla provides the opportunity to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team in a person-centred, dynamic environment.

“What I like about working for Yooralla is the diversity of case load, ability to work in the family-centred practice model and supporting children and families in their naturalistic environment,” added Leah.

Leah says the most interesting thing about working as an Occupational Therapist for Yooralla is, “the things that I learn from the families we work with, and the new learnings we take from each other as being part of a bigger team.”
