Yooralla welcomes opportunity to provide support to more Victorians with disability

Yooralla has been selected by Uniting Vic. Tas (Uniting) to assume operation of its Neurological Support Services (NSS) in Eastern Melbourne, with the transition to occur on Monday 6 December 2021.

Yooralla has been selected by Uniting Vic. Tas (Uniting) to assume operation of its Neurological Support Services (NSS) in Eastern Melbourne, with the transition to occur on Monday 6 December 2021.

This will include four of Uniting’s Supported Independent Living (SIL) houses, which provide 24-hour support to people with complex neurological disabilities such as Huntington’s disease.

Terry Symonds, Yooralla’s Chief Executive Officer, said that all residents will be offered to transfer their supports to Yooralla.

“We recognise that these services are people’s homes, so our immediate priority is to undertake close consultation with the residents and their families,” he said.

“Yooralla has longstanding expertise in supporting people with disability who have complex health and medical needs, and it would be an absolute privilege to welcome the Uniting NSS residents to Yooralla.”

Yooralla also recognises the importance of continuity of support for residents.

“We value the expertise, skills and experience of the current staff at the houses, and most importantly the established relationships they have with the residents. It is our intention that the residents’ day-to-day support workers, nurses and management remain the same, to ensure minimal disruption and a seamless transition,” said Terry.

Yooralla is one of Victoria’s largest and oldest not-for-profit disability organisations that has been supporting people with disability for more than 100 years. A leader in specialist disability services in Victoria, Yooralla provides a wide range of services and supports for people of all ages across metropolitan, regional and rural Victoria.

Uniting Vic. Tas is one of the largest not-for-profit organisations in Australia, offering over 550 services in aged care, retirement and independent living, early learning, disability, chaplaincy and community services.
