Yooralla’s Learning Hub is moving in June
DATE: 2 May 2019
Yooralla’s Learning Hub will be moving from Melbourne’s CBD to a spacious space in Footscray in late June 2019, to share the site with Yooralla’s Business Enterprise and Yooralla Catering team.
The Footscray site, which includes generous office space, multiple classrooms and access to kitchen facilities, will be refitted to accommodate the Learning Hub’s staff and customers.
The customers will be able to gain employment skills at the new site through learning cooking skills with Yooralla Catering and manufacturing skills with Yooralla’s Business Enterprise facilities.
To facilitate a smooth transition, the Learning Hub customers and their families have been included in the planning for the transition, which will include travel training to the new location.
Customers, who do not live in the west, will be supported by their familiar Learning Hub staff to travel to Footscray from Flinders Street train station and back, for as long as it takes for them to feel confident travelling to the new location on their own.
Yooralla is working with TRAVELLERS aid at Flinders Street station, which means we can use their office as a meeting point. Customers will meet a Learning Hub staff member at a designated time each day and travel to the new location with the staff member. This will also be the departure point at the end of the day.
Yooralla staff will also be positioned at the Footscray train station every morning to meet other customers travelling to the Learning Hub in Footscray by train on their own. The Footscray train station is fully accessible, with several lifts and ramps and is attended by Protective Service Officers at all times.
Yooralla’s Learning Hub is one of Yooralla’s Community Hubs, where people with disability can receive the support they require, meet new friends and get out in their local community, all while learning new skills.
