You’re invited to attend Alter State: A free online festival celebration of disability, creativity and culture

This online curated event features disabled artists telling their stories through commissioned work, performance, talks, workshops, and First Nations experience.

Alter State is a major arts and disability festival engaging artists and audiences from Australia and Aotearoa (New Zealand).

In November, Alter State will launch with a free digital program. This online curated event features disabled artists telling their stories through commissioned work, performance, talks, workshops, and First Nations experience.

The Alter State digital launch event will take place from 9 – 13 November 2021.

The inaugural Alter State festival is planned for late 2022.

Co-founded and presented by Arts Centre Melbourne and Arts Access Victoria, Alter State is a major arts and disability festival engaging artists and audiences from Australia and Aotearoa (New Zealand).

Alter State is:

  • A deep exploration of art from our region
  • A space for kōrero, yarning and storytelling shaped by disability
  • The presentation of work that audiences rarely experience

Alter State was first imagined by independent artists who explored the possibilities for the festival to:

  • Honour Deaf and Disabled artists
  • Honour First Nations cultures
  • Challenge ideas about disability
  • Shape the future of art and performance
