Countries of birth
DATE: 19 March 2015
This infographic looks at countries of birth, drawing on data from Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) 2012 Survey of Disability, Ageing, and Carers.
- A greater percentage of people with disability were born in Australia, compared with those without disability. This likely reflects the additional obstacles to migrating to Australia for people with disability.
- Countries of birth are similar for people with and without disability, although China is comparatively underrepresented for people with a disability.
- Because disability rates increase with age, this profile is likely to change gradually over time as newer waves of migrants acquire disability.
