National Youth Week

DATE: 16 April 2015

To mark National Youth Week, this infographic looks at disability rates for young people in Australia.

Australian youth are defined as aged between 12 - 25 years old.

Key facts

  • The most common type of disability among young people is intellectual, while head injury, stroke or brain injuries are the least common.
  • Compared with the general population, there is lower percentage rate of disability among young people. Because disability rates increase with age, this profile is likely to increase over time.

Technical notes

'Disability' is used to mean the broad ABS definition of disability, and includes persons over 65. See the ABS website for further details.
