Breakaway Flexible Respite Funding

Breakaway Flexible Respite Funding provides funds, to support short-term planned respite for the carers of a person with disability.

Funds may be approved to purchase a range of respite services and supports that respond to the person’s disability related needs. The individual circumstances of each person and their family are different and specific types of supports that are purchased may vary according to their request and the resources available at the time.

There is a funding limit of $2,500 per person per financial year. 


To be eligible for Breakaway Flexible Respite Funding, applicants must:

  • be the carer of a person with disability as defined by the Disability Act 2006
  • be caring for a person aged 6 to 64 years
  • reside in a local government area where the program is funded to operate
  • live in the same house as the person with disability.
