Yooralla’s Big Day Out – it was a roaring good time!

It was fantastic to see our clients having the best day at the Melbourne Zoo for our annual client celebration on 14 March!

The Big Day Out was a jam-packed day full of incredible presentations and performances from our clients, sharing the highlights of their achievements throughout 2023, as well as the usual zoo activities. Check out all the fun in the video below.
About the day
We started the day in the Leopard Lodge with a greeting from Terry Symonds, Yooralla’s Chief Executive Officer and a special Welcome to Country from Colin Hunter Jr, who welcomed event attendees to the lands of the Wurundjeri people, where the Melbourne Zoo is located.
Then it was party time! We had a live performance from The Hackkets, who rocked the walls off the Leopard Lodge and got us up and dancing. When they’re not rockin’ and rollin’, two members of the band also attend Yooralla’s Business Enterprise in Footscray.
There were also musical presentations from our Community Hub groups, including a special screening of a music video of ‘You Raise Me Up’, starring Macey Heights client Tyler, that had all the emotions flowing.
While there was a heap of fun happening inside the Leopard Lodge, event attendees were also hitting the pavement exploring the zoo and meeting its inhabitants. Some of the animals had a sleepy start, but throughout the day the lions, giraffes, meerkats, koalas, seals and more were out and about in their exhibits, bringing all the joy to event attendees.
Luckily, none of the zoo inhabitants snuck into the Lodge for our delicious BBQ buffet lunch! Over lunch, we shared presentations created by Yooralla clients showing what they got up to in 2023. This included getting out and about in the community, cooking, education, art, achieving their employment goals and much more!
And most importantly, thank YOU!
Thanks to everyone who attended the event, shared presentations, performed, volunteered and more! It was such an incredible day and wouldn’t have been possible without you.
