Providing support to people with disability of all ages with assistive technology to achieve communication, learning, mobility recreation and daily life goals.

At Yooralla, we have a team of experienced speech pathologists and occupational therapists for children, young people and adults who specialise in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Assistive Technology (AT).  

Our AAC and AT consultants can work with you, your support network, and primary therapist to find the most suitable assistive technology to support your communication, learning, recreation and daily life goals.  

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Assistive Technology (AT) for kids, teenagers and adults at Yooralla

Our AAC and AT consultants will work collaboratively with you, your family and primary therapist in all aspects of the exploring and trialling communication devices and AT.  

We can work with you to: 

  • identify your technology needs and goals  
  • explore communication devices, apps and non-electronic options to build communication skills  
  • increase accessibility of computers and tablets that you use at home, school or work. This could include changing settings, updating software and using specialised hardware, such as switches, eyegaze systems and head-controlled mice 
  • maximise independence at home through environmental control and task management technology  
  • increase independence through specialist alternative access to gaming and creative activities 
  • secure and correctly position technology, using mounting systems, and 
  • provide training to you, and your support network, to set up and use the technology to best meet your goals.  

Our AAC and AT consultants are available for advisory sessions, assessment, professional development and ongoing support as required. They can also complete prescription and funding applications as required.

Yooralla administers the Electronic Communication Devices Scheme (ECDS), which is a Victorian state government funded service that subsidises communication devices, software, apps and mounting systems.

Yooralla’s 'On the Move' powered mobility program

Yooralla’s On the Move program is a unique program to support young children (under the age of 5 years) access powered mobility devices to enable them to independently explore their environments and participate in their community. We have a large fleet of powered mobility devices available for you to hire and trial, including Wizzybugs and Permobil Mini Explorers.
