Social and Community Participation

We offer a range of individual and group activities and recreational outings to help you connect with your local community, learn new skills, build confidence, and stay active and social.

What is Social and Community Participation?

Social and community participation is all about meeting new friends, trying new activities, learning new employment or life skills, playing a sport, joining a new social group or going on a holiday!

We specialise in supporting children, teenagers and adults with disability to achieve their goals, build their confidence and stay active and social. Our community access support services help individuals connect with their local community, engage in meaningful social experiences, and develop the skills needed to lead independent, fulfilling lives.

We offer a range of individual recreation supports, group activities and recreational outings. We can also provide one-to-one assistance with daily living supports for everyday tasks and to support participation in recreational activities. Depending on your goals, our supports may involve skills development.

Why is Social and Community Participation important?

Social and community participation can help to improve your wellbeing and build connections.  Doing things you enjoy helps you learn and feel happy. The benefits of Social and Community participation include:

  • Improving mental and physical health – Fun activities like sports, music, or art help people feel happier, reduce stress, and stay active,
  • Friendship building and reducing loneliness – Social activities give people a chance to meet others, make friends, and feel included,
  • Boosting confidence and skills – Trying new things and being part of a community helps people gain confidence, learn new skills, and become more independent,
  • Encouraging a sense of belonging – Everyone wants to feel like they belong. Being involved in social and community events can help you feel valued and accepted.

Types of recreational activities

Our Social and Community Participation supports offer a range of fun and engaging activities, including:

  • Live Shows & Events: Attend live performances, music festivals, art galleries, and local farmers' markets.
  • Sports & Fitness: Try a new sport, join a gym, or discover hobbies like music, painting, gardening, languages, or photography.
  • Social Gatherings: Hang out with friends at events like footy games, BBQs, or picnics.

Whatever your interests, our programs provide opportunities to connect with others and explore the community in a fun, supportive environment.
