A carer’s perspective on Yooralla’s residential accommodation

Oct 8, 2019

Deb, mother of Yooralla customer David, discusses David’s life is like at home and the positive impact that Yooralla has provided had on David’s life and her life.

Yooralla has premiered a new video showing the day-to-day life of David, a Yooralla resident, from the perspective of his mother Deb.

Throughout the video, Deb discusses what David’s life is like at home, and the positive impact that Yooralla has had on David’s life and her life.

"We feel David’s life in supported accommodation is fantastic. If it was just left to me and his Dad, he wouldn’t be pursuing the range of activities that he is at present. The support we’ve been given and are given, the advice that we’re given. The care that he’s given, we have a great deal to thank Yooralla for," Deb says.

Deb also attributes David’s happiness at home to the Disability Support Workers that support him day-to-day, with activities such as bathing, taking him on outings, to making jokes and having a laugh.

Deb describes Yooralla’s Disability Support Workers as wonderful, approachable and caring.

“They take a real interest in him, and from a parent’s perspective that’s very reassuring.”

“We can drop in at any time and always find David…engaged in some great activity, or just having a bit of fun,” says Deb.
