How a healthy lifestyle can lead to a 'Good Life'
When speaking to our clients, they acknowledged that assistance to prepare meals, and further support to make informed food choices, was an important part of maintaining and improving their health – providing the foundation to lead a ‘Good Life’.
Clients outlined that building skills in meal planning, preparation, and cooking provides more opportunities for sharing meals with friends, families and partners.
Ray, who lives at one of Yooralla’s supported accommodation services, together with his housemates, plans their week’s meals.
“We all get together and sit around…the dining table…and we choose what we want during the week for meals,” said Ray.
“I choose tuna casserole sometimes, that’s my favourite recipe,” Ray said.
Lindy, who lives independently with her husband Anthony, enjoys planning, going food shopping, and preparing meals at home.
“I go out and go shopping…I do the cooking as well,” Lindy said.
“I like cooking gnocchi, noodles and chicken as well,” she said.
Tyler is also a big fan of cooking, particularly the comfort foods we all know and love.
“I like to make pasta, hot dogs, pizza, everything,” Tyler said.
“All the good foods!” he said.
