A Phillip Island adventure

Oct 21, 2025

Two Yooralla Home and Living residents, Tim and Jim, planned a fun-filled day on Philip Island which involved Go-Karting, the Phillip Island Chocolate factory and a nature experience with Phillip Island's famous little penguins.

Jim and Tim, housemates at one of Yooralla’s residential accommodation services, hit the road and travelled south to Phillip Island, for a day filled with adventure!

The day began bright and early with breakfast before hitting the road by 10am, with the obligatory road trip stop at Starbucks on the way.

The first stop of the day was the renowned Phillip Island Chocolate Factory, where Jim and Tim got to see the world’s largest chocolate waterfall, and see chocolatiers at work making yummy chocolates.

“I bought some of the chocolate,” said Jim, whose Phillip Island adventure as already off to a sweet start.

Next, the gentlemen were up for up for a high-speed thrill, hitting the track for some go-karting.

“[It was my] first time go-karting,” said Jim, who proudly took home second place behind Tim, despite his inexperience!

After the adrenaline rush, it was time to enjoy the seaside and sharing some lunch – “fish and chips!” Jim said.

Later in the day, Jim and Tim had the chance to see Phillip Island’s famous little penguins, even getting to hold some of the model penguins to get an idea of what they look like, up close.

“We saw the penguins at the beach, and it was a bit cold,” Jim recalled.

Planning the Phillip Island adventure

“The planning process was thorough and centred on the clients’ needs,” said Jibin, Service Manager of Jim and Tim’s home.

“It began with regular team meetings where we considered trip options, logistics and staffing. Jim and Tim were actively involved from the beginning, choosing which staff would join them so they felt comfortable and supported throughout the day,” Jibin said.

Staff curated a list of trip destinations that were thoughtfully tailored to their preferences, balancing enjoyment, accessibility, and cost.

“Several destinations were presented to Jim and Tim, including visiting Crown or taking a ferry trip, but Phillip Island was the clear winner because of its diverse activities and natural attractions,” Jibin explained.

Over two months of planning went into ensuring everything ran smoothly, from securing approvals and funding to liaising with families and coordinators – which paid off in an incredibly successful trip for all!

Their families and care teams also shared heartfelt appreciation for the team’s efforts. “Both Tim and Jim’s families expressed sincere gratitude,” Jibin said.

“The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, the day was memorable, well-paced and perfectly suited to their interests.”

A taste for more adventure

The daytrip left both Jim and Tim with lasting memories and a taste for more adventures. “The holiday was good!” said Jim.

Both the gentlemen are already planning their next big adventure, planning to spread their wings interstate.

When asked where they want to travel next, Jim didn’t hesitate “Tasmania and Queensland,” he said.

Tim is also planning to explore more destinations next year and both gentlemen have a few more day trips already in the works.

“The holiday was good!”  said Jim.

For Jim and Tim, the Phillip Island outing was more than just a trip, it was a day filled with laughter, excitement, and the joy of trying new experiences together.
