Speech Pathology across the lifespan at Berry Street Yooralla

Aug 24, 2026

At Berry Street Yooralla (BSY), our Speech Pathologists work across the lifespan to help make those possibilities a reality, wherever communication, participation and mealtime support are needed.

Communication creates possibility.

It creates opportunities to connect, learn, make choices, participate and thrive.

At Berry Street Yooralla (BSY), our Speech Pathologists work across the lifespan to help make those possibilities a reality, wherever communication, participation and mealtime support are needed.

Our work doesn’t have to happen in a therapy room.

A BSY Speech Pathologist might start the day with a home visit before school, followed by a session at kinder, childcare or school, working alongside the child and educators in the environments where communication naturally happens.

We might complete a mealtime review in a Supported Independent Living (SIL) setting over lunch, or around the family dinner table in the evening, observing and supporting everyday mealtime routines.

We may meet a child after school at the park, library or following a swimming lesson.

These everyday settings create meaningful opportunities to practise communication and participation skills in the places they matter most, within real life, everyday experiences.

A BSY Speech Pathologist, support children and adults to communicate in ways that work for them.

This may include spoken communication, gesture, sign, written or the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

We will find a way to support our clients to express their needs, their choices, their ideas and to build relationships and have their voice heard. This starts by listening.

The voice of the client and their family is central to our work. We will coach and support the people around our clients so that strategies can be embedded into everyday interactions.

Together, we establish goals and focus areas that are meaningful to the person and relevant to their everyday life.

Whether the goal is greeting someone at the door, participating in show and tell at kinder, communicating a choice, enjoying a meal safely, engaging in a conversation with a friend, or becoming more independent, each goal represents a possibility.

At every stage and age, our Speech Pathologists are there to support communication, eating and drinking as well as participation, wherever the person needs us.

Because when we support communication, we create more than words; we create possibility.
