What NDIS funding periods mean for you

Aug 12, 2025

NDIS funding is provided in set periods, to help pace supports. Here's what you need to know about funding periods and your NDIS plan.

If you’ve recently received a new or reassessed National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plan, your funding will now be delivered in funding periods.

How do funding periods work?

Rather than receiving your full plan budget at once, your funding will be split into smaller blocks, typically every three months. This means you’ll have access to a set amount of funding for each period, helping you to plan and pace your supports across the life of your plan.

Your plan will show the length of each funding period, how much funding is available, and when each period starts and ends.

While most participants will have three-month funding periods, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) may adjust the timing based on your individual needs or preferences.

Different supports may follow different funding schedules:

  • Core supports are usually made available quarterly.
  • Home and Living supports may be released monthly.
  • One-off supports, like assistive technology or home modifications, may be fully funded at the time you need them.

What happens if I don't spend my whole budget during a funding period?

If you don’t spend all of your budget during a funding period, the remaining amount will roll over to your next funding period. However, it is very important to note that any unused funds won’t carry over to your next plan, once the current one ends.

You can view your funding periods and check your available budget at any time through the NDIS participant portal, the NDIS mobile app, or by contacting your Plan Manager. Before booking services, it’s a good idea to check that you have funding available for that period.

When does this change start?

Funding periods now apply to all new and reassessed plans from 19 May 2025. If your current plan hasn’t changed, it will continue as is until your next reassessment.
