Chief Executive Officer Update - September 2023

Terry Symonds Yooralla CEO

Hi there,

Welcome to this month’s edition of News@Yooralla.

On 13 September, we’re showing our solidarity for the Yes! vote on the Disability Sector Day of Solidarity for the Voice to Parliament. This day will be vital in generating and enhancing awareness and education in the disability community on a First Nations Voice.

While we expect that our clients and staff may have differing views – Yooralla as an organisation has adopted a position of support for the Voice to Parliament.

With statistics showing that First Nations people are twice as likely as the rest of the Australian community to have a disability. For children under 18, it is almost three times as likely. This makes it absolutely core business for a disability service provider like Yooralla.

So please, take the time to access the information available so you can learn about the Voice and choose the vote that is right for you, when it comes time to hit the polls on 14 October. To start you off, here are some great online resources from Life Without Barriers.

Speaking of having your voice heard, we are currently accepting expressions of interest to join Yooralla’s Community Partnership Advisory Committee (YCPAC). YCPAC brings the voices and perspectives of people with lived experience of disability, to support the design and delivery of Yooralla’s services – to ensure they reflect the diverse needs and wants of our community. You can read more about this opportunity below, but please reach out if you are interested in joining the committee.

Stay safe and well.
