Co-CEO Megan Spindler-Smith nominated for National Award!
Congratulations to our CEO intern, Megan Spindler-Smith, for being a finalist in the Change Making category of Disability Leadership Institute's National Awards for Disability Leadership.
The National Awards for Disability Leadership recognise and celebrate the extraordinary contribution and leadership shown by people with disability and organisations in Australia today.
“It’ s a wonderful feeling to be recognised with a group of very talented and awesome disability leaders throughout Australia,” said Megan.
“It is definitely an honour to be a finalist. Do I hope I win? Of course - but it’s definitely not a loss if I don't,” they said.
We have been very fortunate to have Megan as Co-CEO working alongside our Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Terry Symonds, as part of the Disability Leadership Institute’s CEO internship program. The CEO internship program provides a unique opportunity for a person with disability who aspires to be a CEO, to experience the breadth and depth of a CEO role.
We were thrilled to welcome Megan, the first participant in the inaugural CEO internship program to Yooralla in April 2023. During their time with us, they have gained exposure to the CEO role while also sharing their own insights and experience with us. Megan has also contributed actively to the work of the organisation through their professional skills and expertise in inclusion, learning and development, and culture change.
Outside of Yooralla, Megan is the Manager of Leadership & Talent Development at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and is chair of ABC Inclusive. They are also a lecturer in Strategic Workforce Learning and Innovation at the University of Technology Sydney.
We will keep our fingers crossed for the result on Sunday 3 December.
Best of luck to Megan! View all the finalists on the DLI website.
