Growing skills, sharing harvests: a Mansfield community story

May 6, 2026

From planting and maintaining garden beds to harvesting fresh produce, clients from Mansfield Community Access Hub are developing practical skills while building confidence and independence.

A thriving garden in Mansfield is helping people connect, build skills and take pride in what they grow together.

At Yooralla’s Mansfield Community Access hub, clients have created a flourishing garden space that is now at the heart of the program.

From planting and maintaining garden beds to harvesting fresh produce, participants are developing practical skills while building confidence and independence. Just as importantly, they’re enjoying the social connections that come from working side-by-side.

Recently, two members of the Social Inclusion Action Group (SIAG) visited the site and were given a tour by clients and staff. They saw firsthand the vibrant vegetables and produce grown with care – and even had the chance to taste the results.

The garden stands as a reflection of the dedication, teamwork and sense of achievement shared by everyone involved.

Made possible through SIAG funding in 2024, the accessible garden beds have opened up new opportunities for hands-on learning and meaningful participation.

For many clients, the impact goes beyond the garden itself. Participants have been proudly sharing their harvest with family, friends and the wider community.

A partnership with Mansfield Adult Community Education (MACE) next door has been another highlight, with clients having access to two garden beds that have resulted in thriving crops.

Fresh produce has been delivered next door to the neighbours at MACE, strengthening relationships and building a sense of belonging through these simple but powerful exchanges.

With a newly planted winter garden now underway, clients are looking forward to continuing to grow, share and learn together, with hopes of expanding the program even further in the future.

Check out the incredible gardens!
