More space and increased accessibility at Yooralla’s new op shop

July 14, 2021

The new premises boasts a larger shop floor and display area, offering improved accessibility for customers.

Yooralla’s new and improved opportunity (op) shop has opened its doors to the public, to rave reviews from the Benalla community.

The new premises, located at 58-62 Nunn St in Benalla, boasts a larger shop floor and display area, offering improved accessibility for customers.

Frances Hardy, a long serving volunteer at the Benalla op shop said they “jumped at the chance” when the new, much bigger retail space was suggested.

“It has been a team effort to get the shop set up, Roz and Maree who also volunteer at the op shop have been such a help.

“At the previous location, every inch of space was packed. Now we have five times more space, not just within the actual store but in the back of house too,” Frances said.

The op shop reopened its doors to the public on Monday 7 December, after a hiatus during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“The other volunteers couldn’t walk down the street without someone stopping them to ask when we were reopening and saying how much they missed us,” said Frances.

“We’ve received nothing but positive feedback since the store has reopened, everyone is loving the new premises,” she said.

With the added benefits of the move, Frances is most excited about the increased amount of space at the new address.

“We can be a bit more selective with stock now and allocate space for specific things like jackets or tops, to make it easier for our customers to find what they’re looking for,” she said.

Yooralla are always seeking volunteers to support our op shops, an opportunity that Frances is glad she took up more than 17 years ago.

“You get more out of volunteering than you give,” said Frances.

“Volunteering really gives you an opportunity to get involved and slot yourself into the community.

“The people are just so friendly and you make such good friends. We have a social club outside of the shop and try to get together when we can,” she said.
