The “best lunch ever” at the Community Café

Clients from the hub, who are all students of TAFE Gippsland, prepared a delicious, two-course lunch for 70 people.

Our Hospitality team from Leongatha Community Hub were so excited to get back in the kitchen for the long-awaited return of the Community Café!

The café, held at the stunning Cape Kitchen in Phillip Island, was the first Community Café to be held since the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated lockdowns.

Annick Cerdor, Assistant Service Leader at the hub said, “the day went off with a bang! It was so exciting to welcome back all our families and community supporters.”

Clients from the hub, who are all students of TAFE Gippsland, prepared a delicious, two-course lunch for 70 people. On the menu was a beef empanada and grain salad with a paprika sauce and for dessert – an Aussie-favourite of pavlova with cream and fruit!

Many members of the community, including friends and family of the Hub clients, members of the Bass Coast Shire Council and local disability employment organisations enjoyed the sensational meal, while enjoying the views at the Cape Kitchen.

Also in attendance was Yooralla’s Chief Executive Officer Terry Symonds, who said it was “the best lunch ever”.

“The clients…delivered a stunning event from greeting and reception to cooking, waiting and serving at the bar. Their service and skills were top class,” Terry said.

Sharon Peattie, Service leader agrees, saying “the feedback from clients, families, and friends, was that the day was a huge success. It was a great day had by all with, of course, great food!” she said.

Yooralla’s hospitality team operates in partnership with TAFE Gippsland, a partnership that the Hub is “very proud of”.

“Kevin, who is the TAFE hospitality teacher, always goes above and beyond to provide amazing experiences for our Yooralla hospitality team – he is a legend!” said Sharon

Congratulations to all the team involved!

The Hospitality program is just one of the programs you can participate in at our Community Hubs. We have Community Hubs across Victoria, where people with disability can receive the support they require, meet new friends and get out in their local community, all while learning new skills.
