Yooralla’s Biggest Day Out Ever!

More than 600 people celebrated Yooralla’s centenary at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre on Monday 22 October, as part of Yooralla’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Big Day Out (BDO). That is the largest attendance at a Yooralla AGM BDO to date.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Local Area Coordinators (LAC) LaTrobe Community Health and Brotherhood of St Laurence exhibitor tables were very popular, as well as the activities including the photo booth, face painting, and the giant games (new to the event this year).

Dr Helen Nugent AO, Chairman of the National Disability Insurance Agency recognised Yooralla’s centenary in her presentation by saying “Yooralla deserves the thanks of the grateful nation” for supporting people with disability and their carers.

Dr Dinesh Palipana’s moving speech about his life before and after quadriplegia, along with his tremendous spirit, and that of his mother, will certainly be remembered by everyone who was in the room. After the event, Dr Palipana wrote to Yooralla saying “thank you for including me in such an important day for Yooralla. It really is a brilliant organisation.”

Highlights of the day included Mark’s 48 year long service award and standing applause, and the response from Learning Hub’s customers who volunteered at the Chelsea Op Shop who were “stoked” at receiving a Values Award.

Thank you to all the Yooralla staff and volunteers who supported the event and gave their time to make it a memorable event! Don't forget to subscribe to YoorallaTV on YouTube so you never miss an update.
