Yooralla has developed a free Guide about Housing for people with disability in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The process for NDIS participants and their carers to access suitable accommodation options can, at times, be confusing and complicated.

Listening to these concerns, Yooralla decided to develop a guide to Housing in the NDIS, which was specifically written to support people with disability, their families and carers of adults with disability to help them navigate the process.

The guide provides information for NDIS participants who are looking to move out of their current accommodation, which includes people who are living with parents, in a nursing home or those wanting to change from their current shared supported accommodation. It is also a valuable resource for family members of NDIS participants.

Developed in consultation with Yooralla’s Accommodation, Support Coordination and Therapy teams, it builds on Yooralla’s experience in supporting participants and carers through this transition.

The guide outlines the steps to transitioning to new accommodation, covering:

  1. engaging with the NDIS to explain goals and needs
  2. exploring housing solutions
  3. receiving new accommodation funding
  4. sourcing new accommodation, and
  5. moving in.

Key terms associated with accommodation funding, such as Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) are also explained in the guide.

For NDIS participants or carers who would like to know more about the accommodation process, we offer free one-on-one discussions to help you understand the NDIS, at any stage of your journey.
